WE'RE HIRING! Patronicity is looking for a driven, creative, and people-motivated Project Coach for a part-time contract position, starting November. We're seeking passionate individuals looking to help build vibrant communities. This fully remote position will manage two of our largest crowdgranting programs: the MEDC's Public Spaces Community Places and Sustainable CT's Community Match Fund. Project Coaches are the main point of contact for our project leaders, encouraging and supporting them through the crowdfunding process from start to finish. Sound like you? Our Patron in the City feature this month is Sarah Black, who coached the Union City Jr/Sr High School students through the Playground Paradise campaign, an initiative to make the Harter Park playground inclusive, accessible, and healthy for all. The teens collaborated to organize and market their IHCDA-supported crowdgranting campaign and apply for additional funding over the course of three years, and collectively earned more than $100,000 to see their mission through. In our interview, Sarah encouraged community members looking to get involved to contact their city councils and schools to ask how they can help. "Schools are constantly looking for community partners to help young people grow. When you connect passionate citizens with city and school leaders, truly magical things can happen for a town." We recently spoke with Sarah Black of Union City Jr/Sr High School about her experience guiding the student-led initiative to make the Harter Park playground universally accessible. Supported by a matching grant from IHCDA, the Playground Paradise campaign was designed, marketed, and fundraised by a collection of high school students, who also gained immeasurable skills in grant writing, public speaking, and organization. "If there’s one takeaway for other towns, it's to get your youth involved early and deeply," Sarah shared. "If we want the next generation to stick around, we must give them a seat at the table to shape the community they want to live in... They will always be able to say they were part of something bigger than themselves, and that kind of rooted pride is what keeps a small town thriving."
